I’m a sucker for any show that takes place in Chicago and doesn’t try to depict Wrigley Field being across the street from the Sears Tower. Lately, the Chicago-based show that has been getting a lot of attention in our house has been on the TNT Network.
While taking place in Chicago and all of the references to local places (Mia Francesca, Potbelly’s, etc) is great and very cool to see, the dialog and overall “feel” for the show is what keeps my wife and I coming back and looking forward to it’s on (this is probably the only show that we actually “watch” the night that it’s broadcast). If you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s well worth going out of your way to check out.
If you’re a fan of fast-dialog and inter-office “dramedy” (as we call it in the “biz”), might be the show for you…
Since there hasn’t been much going on over here at marusin.com, I should direct you over to my lovely wife’s website,
She has not only has she been posting a ton of great content over there but has also taken Twitter by storm under the alias, . Go over there and follow her at
my god, I just checked my website and it’s been a month since I have last posted anything… I have no idea where the time has gone which somewhat freaks me out… :)
let me get through some of this craziness that’s going on around he’are and will report on things soon.
Podcasts have been a huge part of my daily routine for a good four years or so. They have practically replaced any need I have to listen to live radio. So what podcasts matter? What are the shows that I subscribe to and are “must listens” each week? Glad you asked. :)
Here are the podcasts that I can’t miss:
– The technology equivalent of those Sunday morning political roundtable shows hosted by Leo Laporte
– Leo Laporte and a regular group get together each week to discuss Apple / Mac news. Count on it going off-topic about 75% of the time (which is why I never miss an episode and keep coming back). One of my faves.
– Yes, Kris and Betsy are local friends, but they’ve been doing this since day one and the show is as entertaining as ever. Kris is the hardest working man in podcasting in my book. :)
– Bwana McCall goes through all the latest news and tech stories that he discovers. Everytime I listen to Bwana, I feel like picking up a microphone and doing something similar. I then realize I don’t have a microphone handy and then never get around to it. :)
– I’ve gotten into homebrewing recently and this show has been one of the most resourceful things I’ve found to learn all about the art to brewing good beer.
– Another podcast that I’ve been listening to for a long time. The greatest thing about this show is that it can varies from episode to episode. One week can be about Java Programming, the next week is all “witty banter”. :)
– Comedy podcast by Jesse Thorn (Radio’s Sweetheart). Great interviews of people / celebrities who actually deserve to be interviewed.
– Probably one of the funniest podcasts I have heard. My advice, listen from Episode 2 on.
2008 was one of those years that feels like I closed my eyes about 366 days ago and the next thing I knew, we were moving into 2009. I decided to revisit some past posts from 2006 and 2007 where I re-capped the years that were and updated (with a few additions) for 2008.
Me at a glance for 2008
- States visited in 2008: Illinois (by default, as always), Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin (for work ~ no vacation this year), Minnesota (for work), Michigan (a whole lot for both work and a relaxing week in Holland/Western Michigan) and Florida (trip to Convergence Conference for work and vacation with my parents)
- Number of cars that I either purchased or assisted in purchasing this year: 1 (fulfilled a prophecy declared last year ~ that is all) :)
- New hobby for 2008: Homebrewing (first batch turned out awesome and brewing some more tomorrow!)
- Favorite Volunteer Activity for 2008 (sounds impressive, huh?): Working the All Hallow’s Eve event at Naper Settlement again
- Place on the Internet where I spent the majority of my time: and (same as last year)
- Favorite Album of 2008: by Fleet Foxes and by Bon Iver (both only $5 on Amazon.com right now!)
- My favorite gadget(s): Absolutely has to be my iPhone (still), (which was purchased -> returned – repurchased) and . I guess my Wii / Nintendo DS still should be listed while we’re at it. All of these (other than the Wii) are practically always with me.
- My favorite video game: Tie between and (both for the Nintendo DS)
- My favorite book: I absolutely LOVED (and not just because he did a book signing that I could have walked to from my house this past year!)
- My favorite movie of 2008: Wow, that’s a toughie… Let me think about that one for a bit!
The Year That Is To Come…
2008 was a pretty decent year for me. It had it’s ups and downs but all in all, wasn’t so bad. Nothing was earth-shattering, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If I have one goal for 2009, it’s to make sure I have fun with family and enjoy it to it’s fullest. Of course I have a couple things that I always tease are “up my sleeve”. We’ll see if these things happen (or I share them with you!) ;)
