Why do I love WordPress?

June 7th, 2009

I got interviewed (briefly) while at WordCamp Chicago answering the question “Why do you love WordPress?”.

Check out the video below for my 15 seconds of fame (literally ~ 0:15 – 0:30)… :)

May 19th, 2009

Awesome concert from one of my favorite bands, Magnolia Electric Co. (which happened to be filmed in Chicago ~ though I was not there).

Do I do Gnomedex this year?

May 12th, 2009

I’m feeling the need to be at Gnomedex again this year. I missed last year and am kicking myself since.

I feel that I need that technological “reboot” more than ever but the big question is should I make the investment? Thinking out loud, it is an investment in myself

Now you got me thinking…  What to do…  Decisions, decisions…

Sorry For The Test Post

I think I need to revisit Getting Real by 37signals

April 20th, 2009

I read Getting Real by 37signals a few years back when it was just released and if I had dependable search for my website (which is another story / blog post in itself) I could possibly point you to some of my previous thoughts on the book…

Regardless, Getting Real is all about simplifying the typical software project and lately a lot from what I remember from the book (reading it several years ago) has been popping back up into my mind based upon some current projects that I’m involved in.

A quote that I have carried with me from reading the book several years ago is in Chapter 5 – “Start With No”:

Innovation is not about saying yes to everything. It’s about saying NO to all but the most crucial features.
- Steve Jobs

You can buy Getting Real directly from 37signals at http://gettingreal.37signals.com or read it online for free over at http://gettingreal.37signals.com/toc.php

I think this is going to be next on my reading list (after trying to wrap up some of these projects)… :)

Apple Store coming to downtown Naperville

April 15th, 2009

As I much I as I hate to see more chain stores coming to downtown Naperville, it isn’t so bad when I can have an Apple Store within walking distance of my house.  Call me a hypocrite I guess! :)

For those interested, the new Apple Store is supposed to be opening in the same space as the old Sharper Image location which is located at 120 W. Jefferson in Naperville, IL (across from Anderson’s Bookshop).

Apple has already started posting for job openings and walking by the other day, construction is well under way (and no I didn’t have my phone / camera to take pics).

I, for one, am looking for a closer place to go spend my hard-earned money.  Looking forward to this location opening up! :)

and just as I get into a show…

TNT cancels Trust Me… The story of my life… :)

So I can’t get enough of “Trust Me” on TNT

April 7th, 2009

I’m a sucker for any show that takes place in Chicago and doesn’t try to depict Wrigley Field being across the street from the Sears Tower. Lately, the Chicago-based show that has been getting a lot of attention in our house has been Trust Me on the TNT Network.

While taking place in Chicago and all of the references to local places (Mia Francesca, Potbelly’s, etc) is great and very cool to see, the dialog and overall “feel” for the show is what keeps my wife and I coming back and looking forward to it’s on (this is probably the only show that we actually “watch” the night that it’s broadcast).  If you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s well worth going out of your way to check out.

If you’re a fan of fast-dialog and inter-office “dramedy” (as we call it in the “biz”), Trust Me might be the show for you…
