I caved in on my holding out with the iPhone. :)

What can I say, that price drop was really smart for Apple to woo the would-be iPod Touch buyers into the iPhone (which was me a few weeks ago).

So far, I haven’t really had the time I’d like to immerse myself in it, but from what I’ve done with it so far it is clearly an awesome device. I have found only four real faults right now:

1.) Let me control whether I want it to vibrate when I get new emails. Right now the vibrate feature is all or nothing (phone calls and emails). This leads into #2…

2.) Don’t vibrate when I get a new email when I’m on the phone. That is absolutely annoying and I feel like I’m getting electrocuted everytime this happens.

3.) Let me flip the iPhone horizontal when reading/checking email. It just seems like that would make sense to be a feature?

4.) Damn, that screen gets dirty/greasy rather quickly! :)

Any must-have sites/apps, please let me know. I haven’t messed with Installer.app, but it’s on my radar of todos (probably once I’ve had the phone for a few weeks). It’s still June 29th in my world. :)

So this has been one of the busiest Tuesdays in a long time in regards to new gadgets that have been announced…

Apple announced two new iPods today: the iPod Photo and the iPod U2 Special Edition.

The iPod Photo includes a color screen (that is very small in my opinion) that allows you to view photos/cover art of songs playing. You can hook the iPod Photo to a television and run slideshows. 40gb for $499 and 60gb for $599. Seems very expensive in my opinion and I just don’t need to carry pictures on my iPod that I can look at on a tiny screen. I have a cellphone with that feature that I already don’t use.

The iPod U2 Special Edition is a rather slick looking iPod done up in black and red. It’s a 20gb model for $349 ($50 more than the “normal 20gb” iPod), but also includes a $50 gift certificate to use at the iTunes Music Store for the purchase of “The Complete U2″ set (more U2 than you can shake a stick at… so start shaking). Oh, I almost forgot… You get Bono, The Edge and the other band members laser-enscribed signatures on the back of the unit. Something tells me that we’re going to see other iPod Band models in the future.

Finally, something non-Apple. The very cool “Tivo-ish” Delphi MyFi XM Radio was announced today. This is the first personal satellite radio that not only is a satellite receiver, but also stores up to 5 hours of programming. This seems very slick, but again expensive at $350. This could be very interesting (and especially when the price comes down to $125 in a year or so). Just in time to move over to Sirius for Stern. :)

Well, I mentioned a couple weeks back that I gave in to my obsession with those new mini R/C cars that I think are going to be the “Tickle Me Elmo” of Christmas 2002… Extremetech.com did a review of the two biggest brands of these cars: ZipZaps and Microsizers (which is the kind I have)…

The review is located here… If you have an extra $20 – $30 hanging around, I highly suggest picking up one of these. Fun stuff! There is also a discussion about this review as well as the typical Slashdot Banter going on over here…

Also, I just noticed that the review was wrote by none other than Jim Lauderback of TechTV and Strangefolk fame! :)
