What piece of technical functionality that I would love to see implemented on the web/in RSS? It would be awesome to read a story (for example, “Fake Steve Jobs” being outed) and immediately thinking to myself, “I don’t want to read everyone’s take on this story that will be popping up for the next few days” (I’m sure other people would be doing the same thing for things like Chocolate Rain as well!)… :)

I’m thinking that the same type of algorithm that allows sites like Techmeme to find/group like-minded stories could work the opposite way and filter (or “mute”, as we call it in the biz) these type of stories.

Does something like this exist? Is something like this possible? If the answer to the first question is “no” and the second question is “yes”, does anyone wanna help me build it? ;)

Years from now I will be able to tell my children and grandchildren that I was there. There was a point that I didn’t think I was going to make it with a meeting and drinks going long, but I headed directly to the theater with 15 minutes to spare for the <strike>World</strike> Naperville premier of Snakes On A Plane.

Rick and Kris both have already given their take on things and I have to agree completely: I cannot remember the last time that I have had this much fun at a movie. There were costumes and rubber snakes flying (I had a bag loaded and ready but never went home to change/pick it up). For those of you who have seen the movie, I have two words for you: “Snake Vision”! :)

I guarantee that you will be seeing this movie at the local “art theater” for years to come in the spirit of Rocky Horror. Without a doubt, the theater experience and crowd interacting is what made this film. I don’t see cozying up on the couch and enjoying it as much when it comes out on DVD (although, don’t get me wrong ~ I will own this movie when it’s available!).

Definitely do yourself a favor and go see Snakes On A Plane in a theater. You will not be sorry.

I’ve been up since 4:00am and am still wide awake two hours later. In a way, it’s cool since I’m caught up on my feeds (even though FeedLounge has really been sucking lately ~ makes me wonder if I made the right decision switching) and email.

Oh well.

Being up early, I started getting philosophical on things. It’s something I do when I’m deprived of sleep (or have drank too much wine ~ today, it’s the sleep). What I was thinking about this morning was how the next generation of people are going to have such a different level of knowledge and research capabilities because of the internet. Yeah, yeah I know. “No shit”, right?

The example that made me think about this was the R.E.M. kick that I’ve been on lately. They used to be my absolute favorite band when I was in high school (and into my early college years). Being young, dumb and from a small town, it was a huge breakthrough when someone explained to me what their name meant. Today, if you don’t know something you don’t have to worry about trying to find the answer deep inside of a library or running into someone that may know it offhand. All you need is a search engine and you can have your answer in seconds.

What I’m typing here isn’t anything earthshattering. In a way, I’m pointing out the obvious. I guess it just hit home with me (of course, it could be the hour of the day here and my lack of sleep playing with my head). It’s just that we have the capability of answering pretty much any question that comes across our minds.

We are all researchers now. Ten years ago, I never would have thought of myself in that way.
