Revisiting Blur

A year or so ago I heard about an upcoming reality show, entitled “Long Way Round“, that featured Ewan McGregor and his friend, Charley Boorman, where they rode a pair of motorcycles around the world (literally ~ from England to New York going east). I never heard anything more about it until a couple of weeks ago when there was a marathon on the Fox Reality channel (no, we are not regular viewers). When I saw a commercial for this “marathon”, I set up the Tivo to collect them all for us and put them on hold until we had a chance to watch them.

Liz and I dived into this show over the last week or so and I have to say that it was a fascinating show. The camera work is pretty remarkable and seeing the terrain that they have been riding through makes me uneasy (and I’m sitting on the couch). One of the highlights of the show seems to be the background music. It’s a steady dose of BritPop (the title of the show is a Stereophonics song, which is used for the opening song). One of the bands that seems to always come up is Blur. Now, I’ve been a fan of Blur for a very long time, but I can’t tell you the last time I really “gave them a listen”.

Last night after watching Ewan and Charley making their way through Russia, I decided to try and find some of my Blur cds to put onto the iPod. After searching for a good 15 minutes (I have lots of cds that are not organized AT ALL), I found my copy of “The Best Of Blur“. Good enough for me…

I’m listening as we speak and forgot how great they are. If you don’t have any Blur, pick up this disc. Yeah, they’re not “indie” so you may lose some street-cred, but it’s worth it. :)

Oh, and watch “Long Way Round” if it’s on TV again (there goes that street-cred again). I went to search for the show in the onscreen guide (I don’t think we have all of the episodes, but I could be wrong) and didn’t see it coming up at all. Keep your eyes open, though, I highly recommend watching it…

Isn’t this show the one that came through naperville at some point? I remember seeing something in the Sun about how one of the crew lived in Naperville, and there was a picture of Ewan MacGregor on their couch. Fuzzy on the details, though…

Rick, yes it was. I believe one of the camera crew was from Naperville. We finished up the series last night (turns out there were only 7 episodes total ~ they skimmed over Canada/US), but they did show the stop in Naperville. They didn’t show anything other than his/his parent’s house, though. Looked pretty nice/wooded. Liz and I were trying to pinpoint where it was.. :)

We really enjoyed this series and as a matter of fact, just ordered the DVD of it ($15 on Amazon). Good stuff!
