The magic number is $350

So this has been one of the busiest Tuesdays in a long time in regards to new gadgets that have been announced…

Apple announced two new iPods today: the iPod Photo and the iPod U2 Special Edition.

iPod PhotoThe iPod Photo includes a color screen (that is very small in my opinion) that allows you to view photos/cover art of songs playing. You can hook the iPod Photo to a television and run slideshows. 40gb for $499 and 60gb for $599. Seems very expensive in my opinion and I just don’t need to carry pictures on my iPod that I can look at on a tiny screen. I have a cellphone with that feature that I already don’t use.

iPod U2 Special EditionThe iPod U2 Special Edition is a rather slick looking iPod done up in black and red. It’s a 20gb model for $349 ($50 more than the “normal 20gb” iPod), but also includes a $50 gift certificate to use at the iTunes Music Store for the purchase of “The Complete U2″ set (more U2 than you can shake a stick at… so start shaking). Oh, I almost forgot… You get Bono, The Edge and the other band members laser-enscribed signatures on the back of the unit. Something tells me that we’re going to see other iPod Band models in the future.

Finally, something non-Apple. The very cool “Tivo-ish” Delphi MyFi XM Radio was announced today. This is the first personal satellite radio that not only is a satellite receiver, but also stores up to 5 hours of programming. This seems very slick, but again expensive at $350. This could be very interesting (and especially when the price comes down to $125 in a year or so). Just in time to move over to Sirius for Stern. :)
