Gnomedex Day 2 (Mid-Afternoon)

Saturday, July 26th, 2003

John C. Dvorak is up next… And I’m hoping he’s grumpy as ever… :)

Funny guy… - If you need a last minute Powerpoint Presentation, just search for “.ppt slides” on Google - wifimaps.com - Random Quote off the #Gnomedex IRC Channel: “he’s like a CarrotTop with PPT gag jokes” (he = John C. Dvorak) - John [...]

Gnomedex Day 2 (Afternoon)

Saturday, July 26th, 2003

Tim O’Reilly is on stage right now… I’m completely captivated right now…

There are a lot of good topics he is speaking about: - “Linux has no good applications”… What about Google, Amazon.com, etc? - Microsoft has a several year gap between software releases, Amazon is updated how often? - “Usenet: the real mother of open source” - [...]

Gnomedex Day 2 (Mid-Morning)

Saturday, July 26th, 2003

And I have power (and in the front row nonetheless)! :)

I think I’m sitting at the “Official” Trackbacks table… :) We’re just getting ready for Chris to “officially” welcome us to Day 2 and then introduce Jim Lauderback to talk about building a “Home Theater PC” and then Tim O’Reilly, John C. [...]

Gnomedex Day 2 (Morning)

Saturday, July 26th, 2003

I was a little tired this morning so I just rolled into the conference… Listening to Chris preaching the virtues of RSS… I completely agree with him and feel that this is the way of the future…

Any way to strip the content from the presentation and be able to do whatever [...]

Gnomedex Day 1 (Late Evening)

Saturday, July 26th, 2003

Well I had a very fun day here at Gnomedex… I’ve met a ton of very smart people who just (and I’m going to use one of my favorite catch phrases) “get it”… No ifs, ands or buts…

Had dinner and drinks with the guys from MicroURL.com as well as many others… All [...]

Gnomedex Day 1 (Early Evening)

Friday, July 25th, 2003

Just got done with sessions from Rob Maldra (Cmdr Taco from Slashdot and Kevin Unangst from Microsoft… Both were good presentations. Rob was very laid back and came out on stage with no slideshow, etc. Just questions and answers the whole time and he was quite interesting…

Kevin talked about Microsoft’s Media stuff [...]

Gnomedex Day 1 (Afternoon)

Friday, July 25th, 2003

Just had lunch and needing to charge up the battery again so I found one of the coveted power outlets around here.

The sessions were really good this morning… Nelson Minar from Google spoke about how Google really works. It was a good talk and very interesting… I tried to get [...]

Gnomedex Day 1 (Early)

Friday, July 25th, 2003

well the wireless connectivity here has been a little flakey at Gnomedex, but it probably has to do with the barage of people trying to get online… The main session starts at 11:00 and it looks like we’re ready for a great conference…

I met Chris and he’s an incredibly nice guy. [...]

You can recognize me by my bag

Thursday, July 24th, 2003

If you see someone walking around aimlessly at Gnomedex with an always-stylish yellow messenger bag (with a big ass marusin.com logo in orange on it), feel free to say hi…

I could be wrong but I have a feeling I’ll be the only one with a marusin.com messenger bag… I know, it’s crazy but it’s [...]

Made It To Des Moines

Thursday, July 24th, 2003

Well, I made it to Des Moines without any problems.. Just a long drive, that’s about all..

I am currently posting this through a GPRS Connection from my laptop to my cell phone through T-Mobile’s service… Pretty freaking cool (but slow)… Unlimited usage though so it’s cheaper than dialing up somewhere… [...]
